On March 27, 2020, The Home Health Care Planning Improvement Act (S296/HR 2150), was included in the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act or “CARES Act” (HR748) and signed into law by President Trump.
This Act authorizes PAs to order home healthcare services for Medicare patients in a manner consistent with NY State law. While hospitals and healthcare workers fight COVID-19 on the front lines today, this law allows PAs to provide uninterrupted care.
NYSSPA supports the CARES Act so PAs can assist in the transition of patients from hospitals to their homes for Medicare beneficiaries during the COVID-19 pandemic, while protecting New York’s precious healthcare resources.
NYSSPA would also like to take this opportunity to thank Governor Cuomo for addressing the important role of PAs and their hard work on the front lines as indicated in Executive Order 202.10. The Governor’s Executive Order allows PAs to provide medical services appropriate to their education, training, and experience without oversight from a supervising physician, granting the flexibility necessary during COVID-19 response.
Our State needs all healthcare workers to fight this War, PAs are trained in the medical model; it is appropriate that PAs be fully utilized.
NYSSPA and our members stand ready to do our part.
