NYSSPA achieved another legislative victory for PAs and patients when Governor Cuomo signed the MOLST bill into law on December 20, 2019, at 11:46 pm. Through the extensive lobbying and grassroots work of NYSSPA volunteers and PAs across the state of New York, our MOLST (Medical Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment) bill is now law in New York, allowing PAs to sign end-of-life orders for patients. The effective date of the legislation is June 17, 2020.
NYSSPA would like to thank all the members who wrote to and called local legislators to inform them about PA practice and the important relationships we form with our patients. Being able to sign our patients’ MOLST forms allows us to pursue these critical and intimate conversations with our patients without interruption.
It is imperative that PAs correctly complete MOLST documents as completion is monitored nationally. NYSSPA will be supporting MOLST training that will be free to members. Additional information will be forthcoming.
