Every year, the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) has an annual House of Delegates (HOD) meeting. This year it was again at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown from April 11-14.
The MSSNY HOD is very similar to the American Academy of PA’s (AAPA) HOD meeting where representatives from the states and other constituent organizations convene to discuss resolutions that have been submitted earlier. At the MSSNY HOD, physician leaders from counties across New York gather. The resolutions are essentially position statements and directives that MSSNY can then use in the future. It has not been uncommon to have resolutions submitted that affect PAs, so it is important that NYSSPA be able to provide input before and sometimes during the meetings.
In that we work so closely with physicians, having a strong relationship with MSSNY is important for our profession. For approximately the past ten years, NYSSPA has sponsored a booth in the HOD exhibit hall. Having NYSSPA presence has been invaluable in creating and maintaining relationships physicians across the state and with MSSNY leadership. Visitors come to our booth to discuss a myriad of PA topics from how to hire a PA, malpractice, reimbursement, legislation, PA education, that their child is becoming a PA, how they could not practice without PAs, etc. etc. It is a very positive experience as it helps promote and solidify the team aspect we hold valuable in our medical model. John Hallowell and Roy Constantinestaffed the booth this year.
If you are interested in spending time at the booth next year or have any questions about this event, or about NYSSPA and MSSNY, please contact John Hallowell.
